Gary had known Dr. Mrs. The Monarch and the Monarch had big plans for Valentines Day, and he knew the guild would probably fuck those plans over, and yet. He had his own plans, and they both knew it. Sheila was still keeping Malcolm from getting involved or trying to get Gary to stay home more. Gary didn't mind the commute to Gotham at all. He got to read a lot of his graphic novels and books on the ride over and spend hours with Harley.
This time, he had a couple of days off and didn't tell her he was coming for more than a day. It was Valentine's week after all. He had even sent a card every day for about 4 days leading up to his arrival. It wasn't like they didn't talk on the phone a lot, or still talk about one moving close to the other.
That conversation just kept stalling whenever it came up. Gary knew tonight was her roller derby game against another team, they'd talked about it. He'd come to a few games before, but usually told her. He wasn't due to show up until tomorrow, Valentines proper. Yet, here he was, making his way inside to find a seat, with his Star Wars Backpack over his shoulder. He didn't bother to drop it off at Harley's place, no, he came right from the train station. Wearing a new hoodie, his hair tied back, and in his favorite distressed jeans and high tops. He took a seat to watch the game. He didn't expect to be noticed, but he wanted to be there all the same.
Even sending her a message to say good luck in the game once he found a seat. Excited to see her reaction after the game, or during if she noticed him.
