Oh, how he loved hearing her call out his name like that. He kissed her back, and tried to keep them both from falling over as she dipped back, his arms around her trying to keep her from falling back.
"You belong on one, for sure." He spoke with a bit of a flustered giggle, oh, she almost pulled him down with that one.
Harley let her head fall back and laughed, letting her arms slip off his shoulders and dangle. She enjoyed that perfectly natural pose for a moment or two before she stood back up and slipped away to fetch her shoes.
"We should order pizza! What toppings do you like?"
Gary got distracted by her hair again, but held her up until she slipped away. Taking a moment to pull off his shoes, but left the socks. Trailing after her, quietly.
"Ham, bacon and pineapple." He liked Hawaiian pizza, he may be an actual monster.
She went over to the hose and rinsed the sand off her feet before going inside. She wandered around the house until she remembered where she'd left her phone, then sat on the floor and started looking up delivery options.
"Mmm yeah!" Harley leaned back against the couch and tapped through menu options. She held her phone up so he could see the screen too. "Buffalo or regular?"
"Boneless barbeque." He replied as she held up her phone, pointing to it. "8 sound good?" He asked since he planned to offer her a few anyway with the pizza it would be fine for him.
He wrapped his arms around her when she snuggled up with him, reaching out to grab the remote.
"Sure, but I figured you'd like Deep Space Nine or Enterprise better than Tos to be honest." And yet, he was logging in with the remote and pulling up the original serious. "Though, with Kirk we also have Strange New Worlds, and the JJ Abrams movies too." He added getting episode one pulled up.
There were a lot of reasons why she wanted to start with the Kirk era. The first series didn't have the expectation of an audience knowing any of the world building lore so there was a lower barrier to entry. The bright colors and cheesy effects were cartoony in a way that appealed to her. The moral allegories would be simple enough for her high little brain to follow.
But given that her little brain was high and getting higher, she couldn't fully articulate all of that, so she looked at him with big earnest eyes and said, "Miniskirts."
As someone whose watched most of them all more times than he could count over his years, that had slipped his mind. He expected to be explaining everything, even pleasantly stoned. And yet. As soon as she said Miniskirts. He made a sound to show he agreed and loaded up Episode one, the remote laid against her stomach as he held her close.
It was, honestly, just so cool to lie there and watch a beloved show with her. She was probably going to have to nudge him when the food arrived if she didn't go get it herself. He's used to doing these kinds of things for the Monarchs.
Harley loved just sitting with him, being able to cuddle as much as she wanted or hold hands just because she felt like it, and not have to worry about catching every microexpression or sign of a changing tide. Gary hadn't gotten annoyed of having her around yet no matter how long she insisted on snuggling.
"Those little dresses are cute. I should get something like that."
She'd find he has a lot of patience, but he did have a temper. It would take a lot for her to tap his temper, but the worst he would ever do is yell and maybe storm out. He was too much of a boy scout to ever be anything like half of her exes.
"Dude, it would be so totally hot. What department would you pick?" He asked, his eyes still on the screen. "Command, operations, or sciences?"
Harley lolled her head back and looked up at him with a dazed smile. She reached up and absently touched his face. She'd gotten used to his permanent scruff.
Feeling her touching his face, it was good she'd gotten used to the scruff, it wasn't going anywhere. Gary looked down at her with the dazed look. The edible mostly, but he enjoyed the way she was looking at him.
"Technically, there's like more. Uhh, well, Gold is Command and Bridge Crew, Blue is both Science and Medical. And, Red is Operations, which includes engineering and security. That's why the red shirts go down on the planets and die."
"I don't want to be the one that goes and dies." Harley frowned and tucked her head under his chin. She reached for his hand and tangled their fingers together. "So then blue, I guess, since those are doctors."
"Well, I would have assumed operations if you went red, babe." He admitted but looked her over again as she linked their hands and tangled their fingers together. Squeezing her fingers in his as he offered her a smile. "You'll rock that outfit, I know a place to order it if you really want it, Dr. Quinn." This man, really, does not realize Quinn isn't her actual last name. He just thinks it is a funny Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman joke.
"Huh?" He was a little slow on the uptake, between her tracing her fingers along his jaw and still paying attention to the show. "The money app?" He should have realized she didn't mean Zelle.
"It might be fun to try, no pressure, though. I love you just the way you are." He answered, before motioning to the TV. "This part is great."
He had placed a kiss on the top of her head when they both paid attention to the scene, but when she spoke up again, he looked confused a second.
"Wait, what?" As it clicked. "OH! Dude, I had no idea. That makes so much sense." That's why Monarch called her a harlequin... "Is your first name actually Harley? And do you want me to say it Quinzel?" Those questions turning that pleasant buzz into a bit of a dread, mostly feeling like he fucked up not knowing. He knows better these days than to blurt out what he's thinking at least.
"Mm? No, no, I don't really use it anymore." She sat up and pecked him on the cheek. "Harley is short for Harleen but I've never liked being called that."
"Oh, cool. Totally, cool." Her sitting up, pecking his cheek, helped ease the dread. Birth names never seemed to matter much in their line of work anyway. It took the Monarch years to realize his name is Gary. And he had only learned the Monarch's real name once they moved to Jersey. Maybe this was like that.
Nodding, he reached up to trace his finger over her jaw, but was still draped on the couch. Clearly comfortable for now. "Totally fair, and I like Harley a lot, so, no worries there. I so get it, Gary's short for Garrett, only my mom uses it. Mostly when I'm in trouble." He didn't share that with many, he knew Sheila knew, and 24 from hearing his mom yell it once. Otherwise, it just never seemed important to share.
"Well, I like Gary a lot." Her grin was a little dopey as she stretched and settled against his body. She kissed him softly, her attention split between the show and him.
"Well, I like you a lot." It was so cheesy, but he had to say it as it entered his mind. Kissing her in return as he held her close once she settled back against him. After the kiss, he added. "And yeah, babe, I'd love to see you in that outfit."

"Oooh, babe, garlic knots!"

He moved over to sit near her, though probably just laid across the couch or the bed, depending on where she sat down on the floor.
"Ohh, add those, that sounds good. How about wings?" He doesn't mind cheating his diet when he's on vacation.
