[ It was one of his favorite things about hanging out with her. He wasn't 21, he wasn't anyone but himself. It was nice and rare.

Looking up at her when she spoke.]

Are you good, Harley? Did I say something wrong? [ Gary didn't look worried, but he was trying to read her expression. ]

No, yeah... I mean, yeah I'm good, no you didn't do something wrong. Just got reminded of something.

[ Harley slid off his lap and flopped across the bed. ]

[ He still looked confused a moment, but didn't say anything when she slid off his lap and flopped on the bed. Watching her a moment, he felt more at ease seeing her there and not dead. Though he knew he'd still talk to Sheila later. See if she knew anything about Nanobombs anyway.]

Well, as long as you're good, dude, that's all I care about. Want me to order us anything, or play a game?

[ Harley first thought to apologize for not picking up dinner on the way before she realized that if Gary had gotten hungry while waiting he would have already ordered something. He was trying to take care of her.

Weird.

She tugged at his arm until he laid down next to her and then slipped her hand into his. ]

Not yet. I just want to, like, exist in the same space for a minute. It's been a really long time.

[ Gary found himself looking at her again, just before she tugged his arm. Laying back with her, still in his jean jacket. That was fine, though. When Harley slipped her hand into his, he laced his fingers with her.

Offering a content smile, her way. ]

No complaints here, dude, it has been a long time.

[ She squeezed his fingers and rolled on her side, curling into him. ]

Can I ask you something really stupid?

[ That squeeze got a smile out of him. He would have curled up with her more, but he didn't want to unlace their hands. ]

Of course, what's up?

[ She hesitated. Okay, so what if this was love? It wouldn't matter. She'd only ever be third best. Hench 4 Life. ]

... how's level ten? Worth it?

[ It was probably true, one didn't get that tattoo without their loyalty laying with certain people.

Gary made an amused noise at the question, shifting his other arm under his head to make looking at her a little easier. ]

Not all it's cracked up to be. Doc V's back in Colorado, and we're staying here for Sheila's career. Maybe some random arching once we get the cocoon going, but now that we are 10's he's dropped from the loss of his money. So, we're stuck waiting again. [ His green eyes shifting back to hers. ] I thought you didn't want to talk about work?

[ She nodded along at the right places and shrugged at the end. ]

I was gonna ask something else but figured out the answer so I didn't need to ask it anymore.

I guess that makes sense, but I'm totally curious what it was, You don't have to tell me if you don't want too though.

[ He was curious, but he wasn't about to push. Not when he hadn't seen her in months. ]

That's cool, man. No pressure. [ This time he shifted a little to kiss her forehead before settling back against his arm again. ] I'm just happy to be here.

[ He was glad this happened tonight, sure he cancelled on D&D, but Monarch wouldn't call, and he could just exist away from the house and work a few hours.]

[ He arched a brow, trying to think of how to explain it without being weird.]


A lot, but I don't know how to describe it, besides the fact I cancelled on my dungeons and dragons group to come here and I don't regret it at all. It sounds strange I'm sure, but it's a lot to me. That's not weird and clingy is it? I so don't want to make things weird.

[ There's that minor anxiety.]

Things are weird now. But maybe not weird in a bad way. Hey, Gary...

[ She propped herself up on an elbow and looked down at him. ]

Are we in love?

[ He asked, watching as she shifted.

The question should have been expected but he really didn't. ]

Yeah? Maybe, I mean I'm pretty sure we are. At least I know I am.

[ He looked a little worried when he admitted it, but he refused to lie about it.]

[ Okay that was. Waaaay more casual than she thought that might go. ]

Wait, what the hell? Since when? I only thought about it like a minute ago!

[ He gave an awkward shrug still laying on his side.]

A few months? Definitely after you went away, and after I nearly died, like right after that. I had a lot of time to think. Like I said I didn't want to make it weird. I really like hanging around you. We have fun and there's like no pressure. You're amazing, but I also know your way out of my league.

[ He always falls for the badass older women out of his reach, he didn't expect this to be any different. He was happy to stay friends if it meant they could still hang out.]

[ Harley made a distressed noise at a pitch only dogs could hear and leaned over him, her hands planted on either side of his head. ]

You almost died?!

[ Gary looked up at her and frowned a little.]

Yeah, me, Monarch, Doc and Hatred nearly all died. I don't know if you heard about the skyscraper that shot into orbit...but we were in there. We all made it through, but we nearly all died a few times before we got back to earth. So weird to say.

[ Harley dropped on top of him and clung tight all over again. ]

Gary oh my god.

[ Gary shifted to wrap both arms around her. Closing an eye cause that probably hurt his ear some.]

It's cool, I promise. I wasn't injuries and we all made it out alive. Only person seriously hurt was the Monarch. I'm here with you, dude. [ he rubbed her back after the assurance.]

[ mumbled against his shoulder: ]

Don't you ever go inside a skyscraper again.

[ That was not the reaction he expected, but he held her close all the same.]

I live in Jersey dude, I cant promise that. It was a freak once in a life time kinda thing. I don't plan on dying anytime soon, that I can promise.
